Why does my bold text look like a math formula?+
Unicode-bold characters are technically classified as math symbols, but they render visually the same as bold letters in most fonts. Instagram, TikTok, and similar platforms display them correctly.
Will bold text work on a CV or résumé?+
It works in plain-text fields, but for a Word document or PDF it’s better to use real bold formatting. Recruiters’ tools may not parse Unicode bold the same as a real <b> tag.
Is this the same as **markdown** bold?+
No. Markdown bold relies on rendering software interpreting the asterisks. Unicode bold is the actual character, so it shows as bold in any plain-text context.
